About Me:
I am an immigrant, a former corporate manager, a retired FBI agent, but above all else, a family man.
My father came to the United States in 1972. In the heart of a Chicago winter, he rode the bus two hours each way to work as a busboy. Because he didn't yet speak the language, he ate at McDonald’s on Sundays simply because he could point to the pictures on the menu. In 1978, he brought my mother, my sister, and me to this land of dreams.
My parents worked in restaurants until they could afford their own. At age 11, I began working alongside them. Although I cried (the child kind where you can’t catch your breath) and hated that first day, I now realize it was the moment I began learning the value of grit and lessons that spanned from working long hours when you are tired and sick to managing people/small business operations to the importance of community relations.
After earning my BBA from the University of Michigan, I joined the General Electric Company where I worked in their Appliances, Aviation Services, Insurance divisions and finally a Xerox joint venture. I spent a decade at GE, collaborating with a broad spectrum of stakeholders ranging from union members to senior executives across the globe and lived in places ranging from Louisville, KY to Hong Kong. Starting as an analyst and rising to finance manager, I utilized financial leadership to drive business operations. Later, as a quality leader, I applied analytical tools to improve efficiencies within the GE-Xerox joint venture.
Throughout my corporate career, I regularly returned home to run my parents’ restaurant so they could have a day off. When they retired in 2003, I wanted to pursue something more fulfilling. That’s when I joined the FBI.
I graduated from Quantico in April 2006, and Las Vegas was my first and only office. I proudly served as a Special Agent, investigating everything from foreign counter-intelligence to organized crime and white-collar fraud. I loved the mission so much that I often told colleagues, “I can’t believe I’m getting paid to do this.” In 2021, I was promoted to Supervisor. While I missed the investigative work, I took immense pride in supporting my agents and their success.
As much as I loved my career with the Bureau, I love being a family man even more.
I am blessed that my parents are still with us, living part-time here in Las Vegas. I grow increasingly amazed by the sacrifices they made for my sister and me. I am the proud father of four children: Gavin, Gabriel, Charlotte, and Stella. They teach me how to be a better man. And I am lucky to have an incredible wife who is my partner in every sense of the word; she is a dedicated teacher at West Tech, serving our community’s students.
That is who I am: a product of the American Dream, a family man, and a Nevadan dedicated to our future.
-Mike
